5 Great Baked Recipes to WOW at the Next Family Gathering

Three generations of women cooking together in kitchen

There’s truly nothing like smelling the aroma of baked goods wafting through a house full of loved ones. Baked goods recipes are often passed down from generation to generation. What better way to connect with past or future generations than to find a family recipe? With the holiday season right around the corner, what better way to show our families love and appreciation by filling their bellies up with some oven baked sweets. Here are 5 great recipes to do just that!

  1. Apple Pie Puff Pastry Turkey

Thanksgiving is coming up and the turkeys are gobbling, and since no birds are needed for this recipe they can keep on gobbling! This turkey shaped apple pie puff pastry definitely brings that X-factor to that table. Not to mention it being a great embodiment of a thanksgiving staple. Be warned though, it can get a bit tricky!

  1. Biko (Filipino rice cake)

Growing up in the Philippines, I was exposed to a great variety of sweets. I was eating everything from fried caramelized bananas, to steamed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf, to shaved ice topped with custard, jelly, and ice cream! Out of all the desserts I have tried though my favorite would have to be my grandmother’s Biko. A decadent glutinous rice treat with a coconut milk and brown sugar mixture poured over the top. Sounds pretty simple right? Because it really is! Check this recipe out to bring some Filipino flair to the family fiesta.

  1. Coconut Layer Cake

A White Christmas is pretty hard to come by here in California and we probably won’t see one this year, but why not bring that feeling onto a plate with this Coconut Layer Cake recipe. It covers all the aspects of a perfect White Christmas; firstly it looks like a huge snowball, it’s also extremely light and fluffy, and it’s powder snow white of course!

  1. Garam Masala-Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies

Keeping with the theme of Christmas, one cannot help but think of gingerbread cookies. For generations this warm delightful treat has been delivering our hearts back to simpler times. Add a little sophistication to tradition with this contemporary take on the gingerbread cookie.

  1. New York-Style Cheesecake

With Thanksgiving and Christmas covered, it is a must that we top off this list with a recipe for the last celebration of the year. Simply put, New Year’s Eve… Times Square Ball Drop… New York… New York-Style Cheesecake! Pair with a champagne of your choice and voila, the perfect way to start the new year of 2022.

A little sweetness goes a long way. Mix that in with some love and devotion and you’ve got the recipe for pure happiness. Try these recipes out with an older loved one or ask them what their favorite dessert is and make that instead! But just remember, with whatever sweetness you choose to create, make sure to add a little love and devotion. Happy Holidays!
