Road Scholar for Seniors

Road Scholar is an American not-for-profit organization whose main focus is to provide educational travel programs to older adults. This organization was founded in 1975 and was originally called Elderhosted. It first began with five New England colleges and in 1981 it introduced the first international program. Today, Road Scholar offers 5,500 programs that combine education and traveling. These programs are offered in every US state, in 150 countries and abroad ships worldwide.

To take part in the Road scholar organization, the only requirement is to be over the age of 50. Individuals do not have to be a member to enroll, nor are there any academic requirements. All of the programs are all-inclusive and everything is included in the price. Road scholar even offers scholarships and caregiver grants for travel adventures within the United States. To enroll in a travel adventure program, everything one needs is available on the Road Scholar website. Search by location and/or date when you have availability to travel. The website will show what programs are available during that specific time or in that location. Once the program is selected, individuals need to fill in necessary details such as special needs/requirements and personal information. After enrollment, an information package will be sent with all of the trip’s information and the airfare details. The pricing for the programs can range from $1,500-$40,000 depending on the location and the length of the trip. Road Scholar also offers special offers like enrolling early to save money, airfare specials, and single person travel at no extra cost for specific trips.

There is no age limit to learning, and Road Scholar makes it easier for anyone to learn new things while traveling the world. With over 5,500 programs, there are many different programs for all individuals to explore and enjoy something that interests them. The website offers an overview of what each program is about including the length of the program, starting price, and the activity level. Individuals can also look at the ratings and reviews left by previous scholars. The Road scholar provides all of the information about the different programs and even offers a discussion portion where individuals can talk to one another and ask questions.
